Artist’s fairytale continues with exhibition at the University of East London

Internationally-known art photographer Antonisia Schroder is set to display her latest showcase, ‘Walking into my Garden’, at the University of East London this week.

Brazilian-born Antonisia, who has also been invited to exhibit as part of the Brazilian Week of Culture in Oslo, Norway, next month, has produced a series of innovative and beautiful photographs to illustrate the connections that people have with their gardens, how they use them to reflect their personalities, fantasies and dreams, and the integral part that gardens play in the English culture.

The showcase, which includes two books alongside the photographs, also continues the fairytale theme that has characterised several of her recent solo exhibitions including a show at the new £3million Southend Pier Cultural Centre in late 2012.

Antonisia’s work is being presented as part of her work towards a Master’s Degree in art and photography, at the Docklands-based university.

As well as the show in Oslo, she is also working towards a Brazilian-themed exhibition in her hometown of Fortaleza, north-east Brazil, in mid-2015, as she looks to expand her international recognition.

Speaking about the show, Antonisia said: “This is a series that is close to my heart, and a lot of work has gone into talking to people, interviewing them, photographing their gardens and getting to the bottom of what their own personal fairytales are.

“The results are, I think, quite striking and say a lot about how our gardens are such an important part of our culture. They say more about us than we often think.”

The show is on at the First Floor of the AVA Gallery at the Docklands Campus of the University of East London, from 11am to 5pm this weekend, Friday 29 to Sunday 31 August.
