This series is about the character of the person in the pictures, called Isis. The use of hats in this context is symbolic; she is a very complex and interesting character and the hats show different sides to her personality.

By calling the series ‘On Her Head’, I also want the viewer to think about what is ‘in’ her head. What is she thinking in the different shots? Why does she look happy, sad, confused, angry in different pictures here? What is it about her penchant for wearing hats that sets her character apart from others?

The use of paintography here was to make the pictures have something of an otherworldly feel to them; a detachment from reality. The colour, sometimes vivid, shows the vividity of Isis’s character.

A series focusing on the changing character and personality of one person through her choice of headwear
